My mum's trying to teach me how to flirt.

I feel kind of pathetic, to be honest....

I think rule 1 of flirting is "don't let your mom make you feel pathetic!"

*flirts madly with you*

Probably. But when she's trying to help... yeah.

*flirts back, casually and fluently, since in asterisk-action land no actual ability is required*

Yeah, yeah, I know. *makes faces*

The advice boiled down to "pay compliments, but more suggestive ones than you usually pay people; make eye contact for longer than necessary, and be really seductive in general." And she told me about a friend of hers who was too much of a wuss to flirt with this girl he really liked, and how he was completely unable to read her even when she was blatant, and how I shouldn't be like him. (Apparently the girl he was obsessed with came up to him at a party and offered him an apple with the question "do you know what this is?" and he said "an apple" and took it. Yeah.)

I think I fail at flirtology, because the apple story mostly confuses me. I can't imagine me saying anything else than "...fruit?" or something to that question.

Flirtatious responses might include "oh, is this because I'm the fairest?" or "temptation." The correct response is certainly not to agonize over what it could have meant afterwards, as he did.

I don't know, that's pretty witty and all, but I don't think flirting is about delivering lines - way too cramped.

I see this as something that could easily happen in my family.
